7 baby blotters and 3 standard size blotters drying after staining in my “blotter incubator.” 7 different colors; two different sizes; 2 different species of oak; 25 different knob options. Each will need a sealer coat and 3 addtional top coats of polyurethane. And then I like to have them rest and cure a bit. They will be ready for shipment by April 13. Reserve yours now!

Inventory Update
March 28, 2023
I have a new baby blotter to introduce today. It has a couple of significant differences from previous baby blotters. First, the top section is 1/2 inch thickness, versus 1/4. This makes the blotter stand a little taller but more importantly it allows more room for detailing the side shapping. The second difference is the wooden knob — the first wooden knob I have used. It is stained in the same color as the top and body of the blotter. Take a look down below — I hope you like it.

I have 3 new blotters to introduce. These were unplanned. I was at my daughter and son-in-law’s house last month and it was on the cool side so I went out to the wood pile to fetch some wood for the fireplace and I found a beautiful wedge of eastern red cedar. So I brought it home and am pleased I could get 3 new blotters out of it. They are the most spectacular blotters I have ever had the chance to work on. I praise the Lord because I didn’t make these beautiful yellow and redish swirls of color — these are as natural as they get. They are $99 each due to the extra work of getting these formed out of a wedge of firewood.

Current Inventory
Baby Blotter, Walnut Color
Northern Red Oak
Status / Price: Available – $59
Inventory Number: 2023-04
Knob #21: 1 3/16 inch tall “mushroom” knob made of no. red oak and stained to match the body. You may substitute any knob from my knob inventory.
Blotting Surface: 1 3/8 wide by 5 1/8 long
Notes: These have been pretty popular. Most are given as gifts from one fountain pen lover to another. I imagined they would be good for signatures — which they are, but buyers tell me they are handy for pocket sized personal journals where one sweep will easily cover the width of a page.
Standard Size, Natural Color
Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Status / Price: AVAILABLE – $99
Inventory Number: 2023-03
Knob: 1 1/5 round bright rose-gold,
Blotting Surface: 2 1/8 wide by 6 1/16 long.
Notes: This has the thickest top of the 3 new red cedar blotters which allowed for more detail in the shaping of the edges. It is about 1/2 inch thick.
Notes: This is a rose-gold knob which I purchased especially for the cedar blotters. If you look in the knob section you’ll find a bunch of different choices. They are just standard drawer knobs available at your favorite home goods store… so you have a world of choices. If you would like a different knob let me know.
Standard Size, Natural Color
Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Status / Price: AVAILABLE – $99
Inventory Number: 2023-01
Knob: 1 1/4 rugby bright brass, wide base
Blotting Surface: 2 1/8 wide by 6 1/16 long.
Notes: The top is less thick than number 2023-03 above. 3/8th of an inch and doesn’t have as much of the detail.
Notes: Knobs are interchangeable. If you would like a different knob let me know.
Standard Size, Natural Color
Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Status / Price: AVAILABLE – $99
Inventory Number: 2023-02
Knob #10: 1 1/4 rugby polished nickel, wide base
Blotting Surface: 2 1/8 wide by 6 1/16 long.
Notes: This is the thinnest top of the 3 red cedars. I was running out of wood and this piece is closest to the bark of the tree and has a lot more of the yellow in the top. The knot has a slight fissure which you cannot see in the photo. Also you will note the former home of some type of wood borer bug. I could have plugged it and tried to blend in the color but… I wouldn’t be fooling you. And I could have sanded out the fissure but the top is already thin enough so I let it all go. You didn’t want to buy a perfect piece of plastic anyway — this is real wood in all it’s glory. (No, I decided NOT to charge extra for the realism.)

Choice of Knobs — let me know when ordering which knob you would like.
Knob top view: #18 – large red oak knob with massive base. 1 3/4 width.
Knob bottom photo: #1: 1 3/8 round bright brass, wide base. These magnificent knobs are now extinct — no longer produced. This is the last one I have.
Blotting Surface: 2 7/16 wide by 5 15/16 long.
Notes: I love the grain on the top.
Baby Blotter! Walnut Color
Northern Red Oak
Status / Price: Available – $59
Inventory Number: 2022-07
Knob #2: 1 5/16 inch long oval “football” knob has an antique/distressed brass finish.
Blotting Surface: 1 7/16 wide by 4 15/16 long
Notes: These have been pretty popular. Most are given as gifts from one fountain pen lover to another. I imagined they would be good for signatures — which they are, but buyers tell me they are handy for pocket sized personal journals where one sweep will easily cover the width of a page.
Standard, Natural Color
Southern Red Oak
Status / Price: AVAILABLE — $99
Inventory Number: 2022-16
Knob #13 : 1 1/4 inch, Round bright brass with wide base.
Blotting Surface: slightly narrower by 1/8th inch than other standard sized — 2 5/16 wide by 6 inches long.
Note: This is a near perfect piece of wood — no cracks and no oak borer larvae trails or other bug holes. It is extremely richly colored naturally. I am tempted to replace my personal desk blotter with this one. Hurry before I decide to do it!
The rocker blotters pictured below have all been sold. I leave them in here for you to see the different colors and knobs. If you see something you like, please email me with your request and I will add it to my next batch.
Standard Size, Light Cherry Color
Northern Red Oak
Status / Price: This is SOLD – I leave it here for you to view. If you like it, I can make another one — let me know.
Inventory Number: 2022-13
Knob #3: 1 1/4 round bright brass
Blotting Surface: 2 7/16 wide by 5 15/16 long.
Note: Many people think of cherry as a dark, rich color. Natural cherry has a light pink hue but darkens with age. The cherry stain used here can be somewhat controlled by how long I leave the wet stain on before wiping it down. I like the lighter shade because it reminds me of original cherry. For a more robust “cherry” color consider the rosewood color.

Inventory Number: 2022-14
Knob #10: 1 9/32 inch Brushed nickel football with wide base.
Blotting Surface: 2 7/16 wide by 5 15/16 long.
Note: The color in this photo looks very different than the other “walnut” colored blotters below. All my “walnut” blotters come from the very same MinWax Gel Walnut stain. This is an issue of studio lighting which must have been different than when I shot the other blotters. Held together the actual blotters look very much the same and the color below is very close to the color of this blotter.

Blotting Surface: slightly narrower by 1/8th inch than other standard sized — 2 5/16 wide by 6 inches long.
Note: Higher cost due to scarcity of this species of oak and difficulty in working with it. Worth the effort however — a beautiful piece of wood.
